Sneak Preview Of Changi Aiport Terminal 3
I was invited to go on a FAM trip to view Changi Airport Terminal 3 on friday.
Went there with some colleagues. We had to take a skytrain from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3. I understand that T3 is slated for operations on 9 January 2007.
We had an hour guided tour which took us to most of the places such as:
The Departure Hall
The Immigration Area
Inside the Departure Area
The Boarding Gate
The guide told us that each chair cost S$850 and the design/colour of the carpet was selected by tourists.
Arrival/ Baggage Claim
The Visitors Gallery
The guide also made a stop at the T3 Visitor Gallery which is an exhibition showcasing the design and architectural background of the new terminal, major construction feats and other interesting facts and figures.
There is also an architectural scale model to give you a bird’s eye view of the main terminal. The Visitor Gallery is located at the Departure Level, outside the Departure Immigration Hall.
Enroute to the washroom ... and all the gals said that the washroom is pretty nice.
The Transit Desk
Free Internet .. the place where you can always find me prior to boarding
Work to be done
Some interesting facts and figures: Did you know ...
1) Changi Airport has since conducted more than 50 tests runs on passenger flow and airport systems involving over 5000 participants, including airport staff and volunteers from tertiary institutions and government agencies.
2)The fully automated baggage handling system is capable of sorting 10,500 bags per hour, transferring baggage to the next terminal in less than 10 minutes.
3) There are 198 internest stations available throughout the terminal building
4) There are 26 horizontal travellators, 36 lifts, 51 escalators and 200 telephones in T3.
It was quite enjoyable and throughout the tour, i could see that the workers were still putting up fixtures and the finishing touches.
