Irene Ang In The V Conference

My friends cum partners from Fly Entertainment, Irene, Eric and Cindy has been asking me to support The V Conference. So here i am, together with my colleagues at The Movida this evening to support Irene in her first stand-up show.

Paerin, Irene, Yours Truly, Mag & Mag, Ginny

The production of one woman (and one man) show stars Irene Ang, guest star Chua Enlai and it's directed by Beatrice Chia Richmond and written by Benjamin Lee a.k.a Mr Miyagi. The hour plus of song, stand up, explores why some woman remain single, childless and more importantly, happy.

Look who's here. It's Mindee Ong, one of the papaya sisters in the 881 production.

Irene, Enlai and Beatrice needs no introduction. But who's Mr Miyagi? It's quite a unique name. Well, Mr Miyagi aka Benjamin Lee has been writing for several years, both on and off his blog which is so popular that it was recently recused from being nomiated at the Asian Blog Awards 2006. Recent offline work include his first stage production for Singaporean funny man Hossan Leong, calld 'Multiple Personalities Disorder', which played to packed houses and extended shows earlier this year. He's also in demand for fast and furious comedy sketches across all media.

Mag & Ginny

For the production, i think it was a good choice to have Enlai as the co-star. Without him, the think the show will be abit flat. He did a fabulous job imitating the accent of a filipino nurse. And i'm impressed with Irene's command of hokkien. Many of the segments were really funny and it made me break out into laughter.

Mag & Mag (the two M & M's)

Irene Ang in the V-Conference runs 25th - 27th and 30th September at Movida St James Power Station. Tickets available from tdc.sg and from all tickets.com outlets. If you are free, do go and watch. You'll enjoy it.

Can Take A Break Now

After many days, weeks and months of being busy, this is the result. For this particular show, my team spend more time on the planning and conceptualisation as compared to other events.

The crowd is terrible. But of course, not as scary as IT/PC Show. If the crowd equates to that number, i think my stress level will be higher. When you deal with crowds, always ensure that all the fire safety measures are in order and met. Well, if anything such as fire happens, u know what ... i'll be the last to leave the hall. Need to ensure that everyone is out.

The queue goes all the way out of the hall.

This is Magdalene & Paerin, the emcees. There's also Elizabeth who's my emcee on sunday but i don't have her pictures. They are from Fly Entertainment. If you need the contact, you can get it from me.

The performers love taking photos. This time, it's the Ninjas & thai dancers with the taiwanese performing troupe. It's nice to see the various performers getting along well with eachother despite language barrier.

The korean models in their evening wear and hanbok. Whenever they perform, they always attract alot of crowd. I think i've not mentioned this to anyone but one of my dreams is to organise and manage a major fashion show. Well, this is a good start.

The ninjas performance. Lots of sword actions. And of course, the thai cultural dance.

The taiwanese performance. When i was introduced to the puppet master, he taught me how to handle the puppet and make the hands and legs move. It's fun but the bigger puppets are little too heavy for me.

Well, you don't need to travel all the way to cold countries to ski. At one of the booths, they did up a mini-ski mountain and they brought in instructors to teach the kids how to ski. The kids enjoyed themselves very much as they were given winter apparel to wear as well. But well, nothing beats the real snow and ski mountain.

For this show, alot of exhibitors had balloons as compared to banners. And the balloons comes in all shapes, sizes and colours.

And some clever advertising ideas too. This is really effective.

I like the entrance arch as well. Very nicely done and designed. Yeap ... wait till i see the bill. Ha ha!

A Great Reminder

It's totally strange as to how timely reminders and messages are. I was reminded by 3 person this week (1 on monday, 1 yesterday and 1 today) that where i am or is to be, i actually have great ability and authority to make things happen because i am already part of the team. This applies to both work and ministry.

I guess many times, most people like me, in the midst of their daily lives and routines tend to forget that you are actually part of it/part of the team. Thus, you should actually be the one that make things happen rather than waiting or depending on others to make it happen. It starts with yourself. You are in it, part of it and not out of it.

Yes, it's really timely and i believe this is a good start to another exciting and challenging journey. Looking forward to it.

B-Boys and the Korean Models

After surviving through a tremendously stressful and busy period plus lots of late nites, i can now start to relax coz. my event is finally over. Yipee! Time to catch up with my sleep, reading, friends, korean dramas and of course, blogging. Ha ha!

I am glad my event went well. After all the hard work, it's good to see the good results and people are happy with it.

Anyway, one of the things which i enjoyed most this time is the stage programs. There's the very talented B-Boys who entertained all with their non-stop entertaning and high energy break dance. They are really good!

If you are just like me who initially do not know much about the B-Boys, well ... it refers to a male who practices what the media refers to as breakdancing. B-Boy refers to a break dancer that has mastered the toughest hip-hop dance moves. They show a variety of acrobatic dance techniques that challenge the limits of physical flexibility and power. Recently South Korean B-boys have been dominating international competition by taking first place in 2002, 2004 and last year at Germany's annual Battle of the Year (BOTY), the world's most prestigious break dance competition.

For the B-Boys performance brought in by Korea National Tourist Organization, i've just counted and i've watched it 6 times. Once in KL, 3 times on friday and twice on sunday. But still, i'm not bored with it. In fact, i want to see more coz. they are really fantastic.

I'm not bragging. Here's the prove.

The Korean B-Boys

They are really good. All my colleagues are a BIG fan of the B-Boys.

Not enough ... here's more.

There's also the Korean models showcasing various forms of the beautiful Korean Hanbok brought in by Daegu Metropolitan City, Korea and Korea Tourism Organization. The models are really gorgeous and whenever they perform, the stage area is packed to the brim.

The good thing is that there were photo opportunities for the visitors to take pictures with them on stage after the performance. I was telling my colleague that most of the visitors who go on stage to take photos with these babes are mostly guys. Ha ha!

The models look like they are just of average height. But when i stand next to them, gosh ... it makes me look really short.

Btw, that's Miss Daegu in blue. She's really pretty. During my event, Korea was promoting Daegu quite agressively. It's the fourth largest city in South Korea after Seoul, Busan, and Incheon and it's famous for its textile and beauty. For many years in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, most winners of the Miss Korea beauty pageant came from Daegu.

Besides the koreans, Japan National Tourist Organization also brought in the Ninja's, all the way from Edo Wonderland. It's a culture theme park that recreated the ancient town and buildings of Edo period of Japan (1603-1868). You get to meet
samurai and ninja there. But well, i'm a little disappointed with their performance. They could have shown us more of what they could do.

And not forgetting the taiwanese performing troupe from the Zu-Yun Cultural Music and Dance group brought in by Taiwan Visitors Association. The guys are all really young, all 16 years old with the exception of one who is 22yrs.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I wasn't working on saturday. When i went back to work on sunday, my colleagues and emcee were telling me that the taiwanese dancers went all out to perform. What do they mean? Well, look at the photos below and you will understand. But well, that's how their performance amd dance item is.

Sorry to disappoint. These guys ain't doing the full monty. Ha ha!

The performers had fun. And so do i. It was hard work for all.

Church 16th Anniversary Celebrations

When i was first told that Church Anniversary was on 15 Sep, i was really in a dilemma. That's because it clashes with the date of an event which i was heading. My event falls on 14 - 16 Sep. I wanted very much to be involved in the anniversary. But on the otherhand, there was my project. It's a major event and it would be really difficult to excuse myself from it.

I told myself ... pray and leave it to God. I continued with my weekly choir practice for the anniversary with peace within, knowing that God will take care of it. But i have to admit that along the way, i was trying to plan and juggle my schedule.

I remember having a meeting with Singapore Expo afew months back and they mentioned that there were enquries from church with regards to rental of venue. My heart sank when they mentioned the date to me. The next thing i knew, i started to plan. Hmm ... maybe it's not too bad after all. Since my event is at Expo and if anniversary was held there, it's just afew halls away and well, i could easily excuse myself for a couple of hours and get back to work thereafter.

However, my plans were dashed when someone mentioned to me that it'll be held at Downtown East instead. But i have to admit that it was good choice. It has a relax and party, celebrative kind of atmosphere.

Thankfully, 6 days before my event and church anniversary, the staff roster which i did was approved without any comments or amendments. For the first time, i could excuse myself from my own project for one full day and was able to leave early on friday to attend rehersal. I guess it helps when my superior is understanding and she's a christian. To cover my duties, she worked throughout the whole event.

I had a wonderful time serving as stage ministers and we all had a wild time partying, esp. during the second service. It was simply explosive. I must say that the Thai worship team did a terrific job in bringing the whole atmosphere to a higher level. The praise and worship was really good with the audience asking for more. Quite unbelievable. I thought that this only happens during a pop concert. Well, i was wrong. Like what Pastor Jeff says, we party, Jesus style. cOoL!

I truly believe that when we come before God, we should give him our total best and nothing less. This includes praising and worshipping God. The finale during the second service has shown me that we could do it. And yes, i have to say that i'm proud to be a part of this great family. And i'm glad i could serve during this special occassion too. There is no where else that i wanted to be during that day. It was a special moment. I was glad that i was at the anniversary celebrations and not at work.

JUMP Concert

It has been a very busy but yet ministering weekend. Lots of things were taking place. Went to the Jump Concert just now at Touch Community Centre. Had a good time praising the Lord. The praise and worship was dynamic. But i thought it would be better if it was held on a friday nite instead.

Chayanid reminded me that i should plan to go for the church camp in thailand next year with her. Afterall, my last trip there was quite a long time ago. Maybe 3 years. And while i am there, i could serve in my own capacity as well. Gee ... it sounds really exciting.

Anyway, the Thai Worship Team has done a great job and i'm sure they have imparted alot to many of us in individual ways. Wish sunday service was like that every week.

Maria, Chin and Me.
Chin mentioned that i look like Sister Arlene on sat. When i told Cheryl, she said the same thing. When i went for church camp in thailand, afew people also told me that. I've seen sister arlene but i can't remember how she looks like. Do we really look alike? I'm curious.

KL Trip

Have not had the time to blog for a long time. I went to KL for a short business trip two weeks back. Was there to visit an exhibition. Due to some urgent work matters in the office, my colleague and i only reach the airport at 4.15pm. And our flight was at 5pm. Didn't expect a traffic jam in the afternoon due to an accident. Thankfully we did online check-in in the morning. However, the flight was delayed for an hour due to technical problems and a long queue for flight take-off. Flight delay seems to be a norm lately. On my return trip, flight was also delayed. Thankfully it was just by 20 minutes.

Even though it was a short trip, i managed to meet up with an old friend aka my ex-shepherd Susan in KL. Hope to catch up again with her when she comes to Singapore this week.

Anyway, it was a fruitful and busy trip. Bump into some industry friends there. And i must say that the funniest thing that happened during this trip was that my colleague and i took a long time just to check into the hotel room. The staff had given us the wrong room type due to computer system problem. First, we were given the room at Level 6. We had booked for a twin-sharing room but it was a double-bed instead. Then we were reallocated to level 22. It was wrong again. Eventually, they got it right for the room at level 26. Cool .. coz. i got upgraded to the club floor. Do i mind? You must be kiddin'. Of course i don't.

On the way to the airport. Train departs from KL central to airport. It's just half-an hour train ride.

This is the plane which i'm boarding and taking me home. Singapore Airlines .. a great way to fly!

Dreams and Feelings

I woke up this morning from a deep dream which had something to do with work and personal. I saw someone who means alot to me and who has been a pillar of strength. But the surprising thing was that when i saw the person whom i missed dearly, i turned around and walked away quickly. I was surprised by my action in the dream (even when i woke up). But i knew very clearly why i turned away.

This visual which i saw is certainly a reflection of what i kind of feel in my daily course of work and life. It has been a tremendously stressful time at work adjusting to the work styles, thinking and patterns of someone whom i report to. There have been many differences and it hasn''t been easy dealing with it.

I know deep within, i wish so badly that i didn't need to go through this. But the situation has made me more independent that before, given me challenges and opportunities for myself to stretch further.

Perhaps, the hurt is still there and never quite healed when my source of strength and dependence was taken away from me literally overnight. The sudden change of events without any warning had left me unprepared. I had no one to depend on except for myself and of course, couldn't have pulled through till today without God. Thank you for being there for me .. from the bottom of my heart.

Lantern Extravaganza @ Chinese Garden

I was invited to the opening ceremony of the mid-autumn festival at Chinese Garden last wednesday. It was my so-called first time in Chinese Garden although mom told me that she brought me there before when i was young. But i don't have any memory of it.

The kids performing indian dance.

The main attraction is a 100 metre-long lantern display called Ocean Party. There are also more than 5,000 lanterns that form 23 pretty marine displays. The lanterns are made by professional lantern makers from China's Sichuan province. who spend a long time to manually construct each of the 5000 lanterns.

These are some of the lanterns which i like.

Happy Feet?

Under The Sea ... Sea Horse!

and fishes.

The octopus is cute!

Something from the garden

Dino from Jurrasic Park?

The event was officiated by Dr Muhammad Faishal, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC who also happens to be my MP.

If you are keen to visit, the Mid-Autumn Festival @ Chinese Garden starts from 5 – 30 September 2007, 9am to 12 am.

Praise The Lord!

Yes. It's almost midnite and i just finished doing up my duty roster and opening ceremony sequence for my event. What to do? I'm running out of time when my event is in just 5 days time.

But well, the good news is that Susan just emailed me from KL to say that her parents responded to the altar call and said the salvation prayer today. This is the second week that her parents is in church. I'm really very happy for her because when i met up with her in KL on fri nite, she was just talking to me abt it.

For myself, i am still trusting and putting my faith in God. God never fails!

Cool!

I finally cut my hair short after several years. It wasn't planned and i didn't have the intention to. But i am really pleased with the cut and it made me look really fresh. I like my new look and it made me feel happy. I guess i've made the rite choice coz. received many good comments abt it.

With the short hair, it saves me time too. Less time spend on washing and blowing my hair. This new hair-cut has also brought some good news to me. Was notified this afternoon that i have won a pair of return tickets to Phuket by Jetstar. Two mths back, i took part in an online contest to vote for my favourite advertisment in a travel trade publication. I joined the voting contest out of fun and interest and didn't even realised that there was a prize for it. Cool! Thanks for blessing me Lord.

Baby Damien

Yesterday was visitation day for me. During lunch, went to visit BIG Boss at SGH with some colleagues. He had knee operation. And at nite, went to Raffles Hospital to visit Sharon who just gave birth to Baby Damien. He's 3.29kg.

He's the first kid amongst my group of A-level friends. Who does Damien looks like .. mommy or daddy? Well ... difficult to tell, he's got his own baby look.

But the good thing is that he will have a friend soon. Just got to know yesterday that eve is 15 weeks pregnant. Congrats!

With Baby Damien and the coming of eve's baby next year, things will be pretty fun amongst our group. I'm sure they will be very pampered by us :)
